Day Four Part 1: Jet Lag Is The WORST

12th October 2017 1 comment Article Phillipines Blog

Jet lag is one of the most difficult things to deal with!! Today I woke up at 2pm after going to bed at 11pm and being awake constantly in the night. Apparently the number of days you’re jet lagged depends on the number of hours time difference there is, so hopefully by next week I should be able to be up at a normal time and able to observe more in the birthing centre. At the moment I feel ready for bed about 4 or 5 hours after I’ve woken up so I can barely focus on anything.

Today one of the other interns got a gift from a mother who’d she’d helped deliver after a long labour – it was ice cream and bread which was so generous of them! We all ate it together but us non-Filipinos were so confused by the combination of bread and ice cream, but apparently ice cream sandwiches are a normal snack! I got persuaded into eating one…

Was nicer than I thought but soo sweet and as the bread was quite sweet too I couldn’t finish it!
Due to being so jet lagged, I’ve decided to observe this week where I can, but not to force myself to do anything – someone described jet lag as feeling like you have the flu, all weak and tired, but without the other flu symptoms – which I think is fairly accurate because I just feel like I can’t do anything!! SO frustrating when I think about where I am and the opportunity I’m having but I’ve been told by many people to not beat myself up over it and to just let my body adjust. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll feel a little better.
