Abdominal Palpations In The Jungle

16th October 2017 3 comments Article Phillipines Blog

Today we went on our antenatal outreach programs.

The first place we went was an antenatal clinic that was pretty much in the middle of the jungle.

Here we did antenatal assessment so we took the women’s vitals (weight, blood pressure, heart rate and temperature) then did an abdominal palpation (feeling where the baby is in the belly), measured the belly and listened to the baby’s heart beat.

Reminds me how much I love antenatal! Also was the first time Rebecca has felt bellies since being here as she’s been focused on her births so it was a special day for both of us.

After this we got lunch at McDonalds (which was very kindly paid for us by some other missionaries) and it was the first time Rebecca has had McDonalds in 15 years!! Her face is priceless and her healthy hippy heart couldn’t handle it. She hates it so much.

We then did another antenatal clinic which was right in the middle of the slums and pretty much took place in a tiny corridor which was SO HOT.

This was this lady’s ninth baby!

After we got home we went to the market and got some fresh fruit and I bought some MANGOES!! My favourite food ever <3 And also some fresh peanut butter made to order.

Overall this has been an amazing day, I love antenatal and Rebecca has taught me so much – I practically did a ladies entire antenatal appointment with Rebecca just watching what I was doing!! Feel like a real midwife 😀

We’re now making a chicken salad for dinner as Rebecca needs to detox the McDonalds…

Told you I would be envious.
When in church next time admire the bamboo fence behind the platform.
    Well done.
